Beatles hit on their mega 1968, changed-rock-and-roll-forever, Sgt. Pepper album. But feel free to hum its tune as you work on this discussion. Instead, imagine you are at a lake near where you live or wish to visit. Take a water molecule, named Hal, from that body of water on a virtual trip out of the lake and into a thunderstorm, and then precipitated back into the lake one hour later. Thus, this is an ordinary air mass thunderstorm, not a severe one. Instructions for this Discussion Activity Write a narrative about Hal’s experiences and observations. Use as many meteorological terms and processes as possible from all of the modules we have covered so far. It does not matter how elementary the term is. For example, clearly, one of the first events Hal will experience is being evaporated. Italicize/underline each first-time use of a meteorological term or process Feel free to animate Hal and personalize what he observes. You have a great deal of artistic freedom here, but keep the story on topic and flowing through weather experiences. Thus, Hal does not get swallowed by a sea gull, nor does he percolate into the ground and pop out in a spring and experience runoff down a mountain stream back to the lake. Remember, Hal only has a one-hour trip. Again, keep everything meteorological. See how many terms you can use. As a guide, it is possible to use more than 30 terms and processes. So, be complete. Again, you are instructed to write a narrative here, not just create a simple list. Once you have posted your own story, you are required to comment substantially on the posts of at least two of your classmates. You can agree or disagree with their posts, but you must explain why you have chosen to do so. Remember, if you provide a quote from a source (e.g., your textbook or the Internet), you must include the correct citation and reference in APA style. It is unnecessary to include a source for each meteorological term and process unless it comes from outside our text. However, use of just our text material should be sufficient to write your narrative.
