INTRODUCE AND DESCRIBE the ethical situation that you will be considering.
USE THE ETHICAL SYSTEM TO EVALUATE what you should do in this ethical situation. Here is an example:
Utilitarianism tells us that it is the greater good that matters, that we should take the time to determine who would be hurt and how many would be hurt and then select the outcome that hurts the least people. In this situation, we have two difficult outcomes – either you let the woman murder her husband and she no longer has to live in fear but likely will end up in jail, or at least permanently scarred from the act of murder OR you stop her from murder but she must continue living in fear and you may, in fact, be putting her at risk of being murdered herself. We are dealing with a murder potentially on both sides of this equation so we must factor and weigh out harm very carefully here. One both sides there is harm, but the greater harm may actually exist on the side of the wife murdering her husband. He would end up dead, she would end up in jail and/or psychologically messed up and the clinical psychologist would be in breach of their professional code and would likely be psychologically harmed by the husband’s death, as well. So, a Utilitarian would say she must be stopped.
Come to some sort of conclusion/recommendation about what should be done.
