One of the drugs that are used in the practice and is in shortage is Cefepime Injection. Elsayed et al. (2014) adduce that Cefepime Injection is an antibiotic that helps in the process of fighting bacteria in the body. The use of the medication is to help in the process of treatment of the cases of infections. The implication of the shortages of Cefepime Injection is that there will be ineffective medication for use in the process of fighting bacteria and a patient may end up having health issues.

Nonetheless, there are other antibiotics that could be used as alternatives for the replacement of the medication if one does not get to make use of Cefepime Injection when it is in shortage. The alternative that could be used in place of Cefepime is Aztreonam. This is an antibiotic that fights severe infections that are as well considered to be life-threatening and that are caused by bacteria. Elsayed et al. (2014) opines that Aztreonam is useful for the treatment of urinary tract infection, a skin infection, the stomach infection or the cases where one has a blood infection.
