You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
Evidence-based practice is a method of incorporating scientific evidence into daily practice and clinical decision making. Nurses use EBP to provide safety, quality care, and to improve the overall patient experience.
The following are the distinctions between nursing practice problems and medical practice problems: The nurse is in charge of patient care modalities. This type of practice includes comfort, support, recovery promotion, trauma prevention (such as falls), health screenings (diabetes, hypertension, etc…), assessment, health education, and care coordination. Medical practice issues are complicated by the patient’s medical condition or disease. They also determine the patient’s condition, cause, prognosis, and treatment. For example, if a patient is diagnosed with cancer, the disease will be identified and addressed appropriately. Should the patient have chemotherapy instead of surgery? Will the treatment be provided on an outpatient or inpatient basis?
PICOT is important in nursing practice because as nurses, we must identify the patient’s problem and understand or know what intervention will work best for caring for the patient. The effectiveness of various treatments is compared. Was the outcome achieved after the treatment? How long did it take for the patient to get the desired result?
The use of available evidence for decision making and providing efficient and effective care for patients on a scientific basis is referred to as evidence-based practice (Scott, 2009). EBP implementation that is systematic can improve healthcare safety and patient outcomes. A nursing practice problem is a problem encountered during nursing practice, such as during an assessment of the patient’s response to a current health problem or potential health problems and life processes. For example, while evaluating a patient, the nurse may notice that the patient coughs before swallowing food, has laryngeal elevation, and frequently reports “something stuck” in their throat. Based on these symptoms of impaired swallowing, the nurse may reach a nursing diagnosis. Physical, emotional, and mental experiences are all part of nursing practice problems. Nurses create them on their own. Nursing practice problems provide a foundation for assisting nurses in selecting appropriate interventions and achieving a specific outcome.
A medical practice problem, on the other hand, is concerned with the patient’s disease, medical condition, or pathological state, as well as its treatment. They are created by doctors, physician assistants, or advanced nurse practitioners. Medical diagnoses include atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and hepatitis. While nursing problems can change, medical diagnoses do not and are permanently imprinted on a patient’s medical history.
In order to provide safe, quality care and improve patient outcomes, PICOT should be based on a nursing problem. According to Helbing (2018), when developing a PICOT question for an evidence-based practice project, the nurse researcher must gather information and have a clear idea of why the study is necessary. The PICOT question aids in the refinement of the research and the identification of gaps in the clinical situation in terms of missing evidence.
LopesWrite Policy
For assignments that need to be submitted to LopesWrite, please be sure you have received your report and Similarity Index (SI) percentage BEFORE you do a “final submit” to me.
Once you have received your report, please review it. This report will show you grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors that can easily be fixed. Take the extra few minutes to review instead of getting counted off for these mistakes.
Review your similarities. Did you forget to cite something? Did you not paraphrase well enough? Is your paper made up of someone else’s thoughts more than your own?
Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for tips on improving your paper and SI score.
