Women’s Health W2D2

As one moves into their 30s and 40s, their life is usually very busy with work, family, and home. Taking care of oneself at this time seems to be an additional thing to their already packed to-do list. However, being proactive about your health at this point in your life is crucial given the increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, breast cancer, and high blood pressure (Wild et al., 2021). This discussion illustrates counseling women between the ages of 37 and 44 years during the women’s health maintenance visit.

The counseling will start by educating women from this age group on the importance of maintaining healthy habits. For instance, eating a healthy diet that is well round helps in maintaining a healthy weight hence reducing the risks of the above mention chronic diseases. Additional health promotion habits include at least 30 minutes of physical exercise daily, sleeping for about 7 to 8 hours every night, avoiding smoking limiting alcohol consumption, wearing seatbelts in cars, and visiting a dentist and optician at least twice every year. I will then prepare them for menopause to avoid associated mental complications such as anxiety and depression (El Khoudary et al., 2019). I will also advise them to make time for regular wellness visits for preventive health care such as screening for diabetes, hypertension, tuberculosis, breast cancer, sexually transmitted infections, Pap test and HPV, HIV/AIDs, and Hep B and Hep C.

It is also important to educate women of this age group about their immunization status. They need to get a flu shot every year (Wild et al., 2021). They also need a single dose of Tdap as a booster, then a Td booster after every 10 years, and a vaccine to reduce your risk of pneumococcal infection.
