Baroque Module Wrap-up

For your Baroque module wrap-up, I’d like you to think about how composing as a profession developed in the eighteenth century. Please read “How Handel Played the Markets” by Peter Day from the BBC and “Engaging J.S. Bach” by A.J. Goldman from the Wall Street Journal. Each of these articles are concerned (at least in part) with explaining the professionalization of composing during the Baroque period. Based on our course reading and discussions, write a response (no more than 250 words) that addresses how Handel’s approach to professionalization might have affected his compositional style vs. how Bach’s approach to his profession might have affected his. How did Handel view his occupation? How did Bach? What did that end up meaning in terms of their respective styles?
