Purpose of Cultivating Healthy Environments
Advanced master’s-level practice Nurses engage in and exhibit fair and unbiased interactions in all workplace settings. You are encouraged to implement strategies that promote and cultivate cultures of civility as a member of the nursing profession and as a leader, regardless of practice setting. The goal of this assessment is to examine the issue of incivility and to implement best practices for cultivating healthy environments.
CO 1: Examine the roles and competencies of master’s-prepared nurses that are required to function as leaders and advocates for holistic, safe, and high-quality care. (PO 1 – 5)

Consider the issue of incivility. Consider a time when you were directly involved in or witnessed workplace incivility. Analyze scholarly literature on incivility and strategies for cultivating healthy environments.
Address the following in a four- to six-page written paper.
Define and explain the term “incivility.” Make use of peer-reviewed nursing literature.
Discuss the significance of this issue in the field of nursing. Examine the impact of incivility on individuals, microsystem work environments, and the nursing profession. Use at least three (3) different scholarly nursing literature in-text citations with matching references in this section.
Provide a scenario of incivility in a practice setting (real or fictitious). What effect did it have on the people involved? What impact did this have on the workplace?
Describe three approaches to creating a healthy environment. To back up each strategy, consult scholarly nursing literature.
Determine your chosen specialty track (education, executive, family nurse practitioner, healthcare policy, or nursing informatics). Give two examples of strategies you will use to cultivate a healthy work environment in your master’s-prepared advanced practice role.
Give a conclusion. Include a summary of the issue of incivility, strategies for creating healthy environments, specialty track, and how you intend to contribute to cultivating healthy environments in your future professional practice. Include a section for self-reflection.
Preparing the paper on Cultivating Healthy Environments
Submission Prerequisites
Use Microsoft Word 2013TM as the application.
Length: The paper (excluding the title page and reference page) should be at least four (4) pages long and no more than six (6) pages long.
A minimum of four (4) references to scholarly nursing literature must be used.
This assessment must be submitted to TurnItInTM in accordance with TurnItInTM policy. A similarity index of less than 24 percent, which is the CCN graduate nursing students’ benchmark. Any other similarity index level necessitates that the student revise the assessment prior to the due date and time. Early submission of the assessment to TurnItInTM is strongly encouraged to allow enough time for revision. Faculty will grade the final submission. If a TurnitinTM report reveals plagiarism, the Academic Integrity policy will be followed.

I strongly encourage that you do not wait until the very last minute to complete your assignments. Your assignments in weeks 4 and 5 require early planning as you would need to present a teaching plan and interview a community health provider. Your initial discussion post should be a minimum of 200 words and response posts should be a minimum of 150 words. Be advised that I grade based on quality and not necessarily the number of words you post. A minimum of TWO references should be used for your initial post. For your response post, you do not need references as personal experiences would count as response posts. If you however cite anything from the literature for your response post, it is required that you cite your reference. You should include a minimum of THREE references for papers in this course. Please note that references should be no more than 5 years old except recommended as a resource for the class. Furthermore, for each discussion board question, you need ONE initial substantive response and TWO substantive responses to either your classmates or your instructor for a total of THREE responses. There are TWO discussion questions each week, hence, you need a total minimum of SIX discussion posts for each week. I usually post a discussion question each week. You could also respond to these as it would count towards your required SIX discussion posts for the week.
I understand this is a lot of information to cover in 5 weeks, however, the Bible says in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us. Even in times like this, we are encouraged by God’s word that we have that ability in us to succeed with His strength.
