Discussion 12 – Epidemics Throughout History

There have been numerous epidemics throughout history that have killed millions.   With all that’s going on right now in the world, this hits close to home.

Below you will find a list of epidemics that have affected the world population in more recent times, for example, since 1900. Choose one of these epidemics for further research.

Be sure to include:

1. the name of the disease

2. date and location of the epidemic (if there were multiple epidemics, just tell us about one)

3. description of the symptoms,

4. the infectious agent. Include the name and species of the pathogen if available and whether it’s a bacteria or virus.

5. Tell us something about the impact of the epidemic on the population. For example, the number of cases or the percentage of the population that was affected. Was a cure available? How was it treated? How many people died?

6. Help us put the disease into perspective. What else was going on in that country or region at the same time?

Pick one disease from this list. Claim your topic early n the week, and be sure to check to make sure no one else has written about it before you post.
