Question Description
Assignment

For this assignment, you will reflect on the Work Values Card Sort and Career Skills Inventory exercises you completed in Week 6, articulate your professional goals and career plans, and write an action plan for implementing those goals and plans.

Instructions

Write a 5–6 page paper in which you complete the following:

Create a title page: Give your paper a title that reflects the purpose of your work. Use the APA Paper Template [DOCX] to format your paper according to the APA manual (sixth edition).
Write an introduction: For the introduction section of your paper, include the title at the top of the first page, and begin your introduction two spaces beneath your title. (In APA format, the word Introduction is not used as a heading.) Briefly summarize the key components of your paper.
Create a heading titled Assessment and Inventory Results: Summarize the results of the required self-assessment and self-inventory exercises. Use critical thinking and your knowledge of psychological theories and concepts to analyze the meaning and significance of the results. This summary can help guide your career direction.
Create a heading titled Goals and Career Plans:
Describe your professional philosophy, including your goals and career plans.
Describe how your professional goals and career choices align with your values and life interests.
Explain how your values relate to professional behaviors and practices.
Create a heading titled Motivation: Analyze how psychological principles can be used to motivate you to overcome obstacles to reach your professional goals.
Create a heading titled Action Plan: Develop a SMART Action Plan [PDF] for implementing your career goals. This will serve as a road map to help you take concrete steps to fulfill your goals. For example, describe the steps you are planning to take to apply for a job or apply to graduate school. Discuss realistic ideas about how to implement psychological knowledge and skills in occupational pursuits that meet personal and professional goals.
Create a heading titled Conclusion: Briefly summarize the key points of your paper and make a statement about your future career aspirations.
Keep in mind throughout this assignment that while your writing must conform to APA standards, you must explain all information in a manner that can be easily understood by a nonacademic or nonscientific audience.

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

Leaders are always being described as visionaries, equipped with strategies, a plan and desire to lead their teams and services to a future goal. Effective leaders are required to use problem-solving processes, maintain group effectiveness, and develop group identification. Many healthcare organizations provide high-quality care and that behind this quality-care is a team of nurses working to ensure that each patient receives sufficient treatment (WGU, n.d.). A Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) leads this team. A CNO fulfill a wide variety of regulatory duties in addition to hands-on patient care. It is a one of the top nursing leadership roles available today. The position of CNO is often referred to as the VP of Nursing who is responsible for ensuring quality care is rendered while implementing policies that contribute to long-term facility success. It is a specialized position that typically requires both undergraduate and master’s degree with at least five to six years of experience in a healthcare environment fulfilling specific nursing duties. CNOs are also expected to act as senior nurses. A senior nurse must be dynamic, passionate, have a motivational influence on other people, be solution-focused and seek to inspire others (Frankel, n.d.). Senior nurses must apply these characteristics to their work to win the respect and trust of team members and lead the development of clinical practice.

Malak et al. (2022) conducted a study and found that servant leadership style was predominant in CNOs. Servant leadership style begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Servant leadership style does promote behavior that is beneficial in creating and engaging work culture and providing quality care; thus, leading to a better patient health outcome.
