Socrates, in this case of Apology, refused to accept any form of punishment that was lesser and was light such as the imposition of fines and exiles. Socrates opted for death as a form of punishment. He explained that life was not worth living, and thus the most preferred thing was death. He chose death since it was not easy for him to live a life not featured by unrighteousness. The wish of Socrates was, therefore, not to live any longer since he was tired. In accordance with the thinking of Socrates, it was not right for him to ask for favors from the members of the jury, requesting them to make decisions for him (Geuss, 2017). Socrates was happy for the decision to death and was. Therefore, he was neither bitter nor angry about the decision. Instead, he was positive and philosophical about it.
The moral principle that was portrayed by Socrates by never accepting pleas with the members of the jury for a type of punishment that was lesser is the obedience of the law. Despite Socrates’s action of the provision of the opinions of the kind of discipline that should be done to him (Priou, 2018). He obeyed the laws of the nations since he did not escape. The action of escaping could be an act of disobedience. Socrates, therefore, committed to morality and truth that later cost his life.

He, however, disapproved by explaining they are wrong by choosing to obey the law and make opinions at the same time. Socrates, in this case, however, portrayed great self-confidence and intelligence in making the decision.
