The Dilemma: You are a wealthy French estate owner in Lyon, France in 1943. The Germans (Nazis) now occupy France and are hunting Jewish families who have fled Germany and are hiding in France. You are hiding a family of 5 Jews in the basement of your home. On this particular day, a group of cars approach your home, and you notice they are Nazi officers. They ask you – based on the size of your home and estate – if you are housing any Jewish families on your property. Do you tell them the truth, or do you lie? How would Kant and Mill respond respectively based soley on their theories of ethics (right vs wrong action)? Explain your response.
