Module 4: Assignment:Cephalosporins
The causes of non-compliance for the use of this medication is the issue of failure to start therapy, or as a result of the delay in starting the therapy. There are other possible causes of not compliance with the medication including the cases where one omits the medication unintentionally or the patient has a belief of the medication. The frequency of the dosing and the cost that is attached to the antibiotic is as well the main cause of non-compliance to the medication.
Karve and Paul (2016) opine that the cases of noncompliance to Cephalosporins will have consequences such as the reduction in the cure rate and result in the increase in the changes if the developing resistant to the bacteria. In addition, failure to take the medication will increase the chances of the patient visiting the medical practitioner again as a result of the impact of the resistant. This is attributed to the fact that when a patient stops making use of an antibiotic because they feel better, there is a chance that there are a small number of bacteria that will still survive and they will end up building resistance towards the antibiotic. This will result in the need for use of more money and one will end up visiting the healthcare providers again and again.
The best strategy that will help in solving the issue of noncompliance is by having a patient education to help in ensuring that they have an understanding of the importance of adherence to prescriptions. In education, it will be vital that the patients are taught of the risks of noncompliance to the use of Cephalosporins. This can be carried out when the patient has prescribed the medication.
