NURS 6003 Discussion Using the Walden Library SAMPLE

The peer-reviewed article I will cite is “Effects of a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner on Process and Outcome of Nursing Home Care” (2021).   To find this article, I searched the Am J Public Health Journal library.  When determining the best type of article to use for this post, I referenced the web article “What Types of References are Appropriate?” (S.C. Pan. 2021).  This article includes information on peer-review journals, and determines that these are the best to use. An article in the National Library of Medicine (NLM. 2021) assisted me in understanding what a peer-reviewed article all entails.  The article I found

discusses using doctors versus to care for the elderly in nursing homes.  The main difficulty I found was to find an article that was both relevant to the topic as well as current.  This article is a little dated, however, I did feel that the findings in this peer-reviewed article are still relevant today.  The article discusses an improvement in activities of daily living, nursing and drug therapies.  Also, that the number of admissions to hospitals as well as the days in the nursing home were decreased with the use of a Nurse Practitioner in the nursing home setting.  This journal would be helpful to classmates of mine.  It did appear to have well-written and well-researched nursing topics.  This database will also be helpful to me going forward as I will need to reference more peer-cited information for class.

The I found is “Telemedicine, the current COVID-19 pandemic, and the future: a narrative review and perspectives moving forward in the USA.” In the world we live in, technology continues to advance by the day. As a future nurse practitioner, telemedicine has always drawn my attention because I always wondered how it worked and whether or not it is effective. According to my research, telemedicine is relatively new, finding my article was challenging. The first resource I used to find information on telehealth was the database in Walden University’s library because it contains many databases (n.d.). Unfortunately, I was not successful in the University’s library database and looked elsewhere. I found the article in the U.S. National Library of Medicine database. In order to determine if the article was reliable, I referenced Walden University’s library Evaluating Resources to learn more about reliable journals and articles (n.d.). Telemedicine provides luxury to people by being able to seek medical treatment from the convenience of their homes. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the outlook of telemedicine tremendously because the country was on lockdown, and medical offices were closed (Kichlo et al.,2020). I highly recommend this database to my colleagues because it contains many medical-related articles that can be used for further papers in the future. The database provides reliable sources and also helps with proper citation.

Hello St,

Telemedicine has been such an advancement for primary care within these last years. I also found database searching for this topic to be a bit difficult. I did find an article, “Evaluating Advanced Practice Nurses’ Knowledge and Use of Electronic Consultations” (2020) to be very insightful. The Journal of Nurse Practitioners states that the information gained during an e-consult can eliminate the need for an appointment by approximately 30% (2020). This can give the provider more time to set appointments with patients that require face to face evaluations.

Walden offers assistance with varies databases. Walden understands that it can be difficult to identify a resource online without physical clues. (Walden, nd). I have used EBSCO for past research but recently have used ProQuest. It offers multiple search fields to review numerous journals and is user friendly. I wish you success in your scholarly pursuit.

I read your post about telemedicine, and what an interesting topic it is! While the world is dealing with Covid-19, telemedicine is getting a great deal of attention. Telemedicine is still a fairly new concept, but I’m sure we can expect to see several future medical organizations begin to utilize these resources – especially if they can find a sizable target audience (which they most certainly can). Many hospitals are turning away patients due to shortage of staff and resources and lots of patients having to wait in line to find help for themself or loved one.

I found an article in the Walden library that explains how Telemedicine was used during Covid-19 in hospital to provide quality care to patients and enhance the safety to both patients and staff at the same time (Pilosof, 2021). Technology is already widely used in the healthcare settings, so it is not surprising to see a higher utilization of it to help find solutions we’ve been facing due to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. I think Telemedicine is going to be utilized more in the future in healthcare systems.
