Here are questions to use as a guide when evaluating a piece of music for this class.  Not all may apply to every piece:

•     Name of piece [required]
•     Composer [required]
•     Performer and/or ensemble? [required]
•     Where did you hear this piece (radio, CD, live concert, etc.)?    [required]
•     Year composed and/or recorded?
•     Jazz era (such as “Swing” or “Bop”)?

•     Instrument(s) or type of ensemble heard?
•     Were there soloists?  Which instrument?

What you heard-

•     What type of mood did it attempt to establish?
•     Did the mood of the piece change?
•     Did the piece change much dynamically?
•     Did it change much tempo-wise?
•     Did the tone color/timbre change much?
•     Was the melody line easily discernible?
•     What characteristics of the musical era did you hear?
•     What was the form of the piece?

 

•     Have you heard this piece before?

•     Did you like it?        (Rate it 1-10?)
