Research Design: Qualitative or Quantitative
Qualitative research design is more preferred to qualitative research since it is more objective, scientific, fast, acceptable, and focused. However, qualitative research can be considered when the researcher has no clue of what to expect (Farghaly, 2018). As such, in determining the effectiveness of fall prevention interventions in the medical-surgical ward, I will use the qualitative research design. This method will be well structured and consistent during the data collection, mostly by use of questionnaires with closed-ended questions (Thompson et al., 2018). The collected data will be utilized in determining the cause and effect relationship, hence easier to make a prediction. Generally, my evidence-based project proposal requires the collection of feedback from numerous participants to provide a more convincing outcome to the audience, which can only be achieved through the utilization of qualitative research.
As mentioned earlier, the most preferable data collection tool for this EBP is the use of questionnaires. For starters, questionnaires are usually considered good for surveys as the researcher normally attains a higher response rate given that participants do not have to take a lot of time to respond to the well-structured questions (Kalfoss, 2019). Additionally, questionnaires can be easily analyzed statistically to come up with valid and reliable outcomes. The other reason behind selecting this data collection tool is that the use of questionnaires is very affordable, practical, and a faster way of collecting data both online and by the use of mobile tools. Additional advantages of questionnaires include scalability, comparability, not time consuming, and finally, the research can easily allow the respondent to maintain their anonymity.
