Here are some tips and FAQs for Writing the Questions for Analysis

Tips and FAQs

  • Illustrate your brain’s interaction with the readings. Focus on ANALYSIS (not summary).
  • Try and introduce the main idea of your paragraph in the first few sentences of each paragraph. This will make your paper easier to follow. It also helps the reader understand the purpose of each paragraph in the first few lines.
  • You are free to use the text book as much or as little as you want; just show me that you understand the concept in the book.
  • Illustrate your knowledge of the text with details and vocabulary words when possible.
  • * I will include additional details on the audio slides to help clarify ideas that pertain to the questions of analysis.

Things to AVOID:

  • Do not use contractions (such as ain’t, can’t and shouldn’t).
  • Do not use “a lot” in your paper.
  • Do not use split infinitives, such as “to quickly run”.
  • Avoid long paragraphs. (Try to create a new paragraph after 6-8 sentences).

Chapter 3: Socialization (suggested length: 2 pages)

  1. Please refer to the chapter “The Female Advantage” from the book Women Don’t Ask: The High Cost of Avoiding Negotiation—And Positive Strategies for Change. What is the “fixed pie myth” and the “growing the pie” approach? Has gender socialization contributed to these approaches? How so? Please explain using references to Chapter 3. Your personal reflections/experiences/stories are welcome! (but not required).

  1. What is Emotional Intelligence? Did you agree with author’s points in the article?  How may the insight from the article on Emotional Intelligence improve social interactions? Please feel free to share any personal experiences where you (or someone you know) have used Emotional Intelligence at work, in an organization/school, in you family, or in leadership/conflict situations.

  1. Why recommendations would you make to help people struggling with role strain? (such as the professional athletes mentioned in the slides)

OR

What recommendations would you make to help someone in the “sandwich generation” experiencing role conflict. (This would be someone who is trying to balance multiple roles, to care for an aging parent, and their own children, work responsibilities and possibly a spouse.)

For both of these options, you are welcome to share stories of someone who you may personally know who is struggling with these social issue or a related issue as an example.
