Strategies Activists Fighting

Based on your analysis of the three primary sources, write an essay in which you develop a thesis about strategies activists fighting for equal rights and better treatment used to achieve their goals. You can identify a strategy used across all three documents and develop a thesis about how the three movements used it, paying attention to how they adapted it to their cause, or you can develop a thesis about differences in strategies. Go beyond staying they all wanted things to be better or more equal and identify something more specific. For instance, you could make an argument based on your examination of the ways they use America’s claim to stand for freedom and equality to argue for changes. Or you could focus on the way three documents focus on economic issues.  These are just examples. Each paragraph in the body of the paper should have a topic sentence that explains the main point of the paragraph. Remember that a thesis develops an argument or an opinion. Your essay should not just “about” something—make your point of view clear. Use evidence from the documents—including brief quotes—to support your ideas and explain how the evidence supports your thesis. Provide historical context from the American Yawp readings and any other relevant material we read or watched this semester. Use MLA parenthetical citations.
