Summarize Socrates’ Parable of the Cave (see videos and reading).

Many scholars believe that the parable is an analogy meant to contrast those who do not engage in lives of seeking wisdom (that is, doing philosophy) with the lives of those who do. It is supposed to explain why those who dedicate their lives to wisdom and knowledge are better off than those who are content to live unreflective, ignorant lives (most people). It also seeks to explain why non philosophically-inclined people quite frequently despise, misunderstand and reject philosophers, scholars, etc. Is Socrates’ parable accurate? Does it stand even today? Explain.
