John and Janice demonstrated a colorblind perspective, believing that we are living in a post-racial society. Due to the fact we have an unconscious bias on race, as demonstrated in the Jane Elliot exercise, where the children were separated between brown eyes and blue eyes. Even if they are able adapt to the racial and ethical differences of various cultural groups, they truly have the belief of race no longer determining the life chances on an individual. The conventional wisdom which John and Janice perceive, they are not willing to hear the ideas or advice of others. John and Janice take on a colorblind perspective due to it being less stressful and more pleasure for them to enjoy the supposed “peace” within their social system. Ultimately, having a colorblind society is the ideal goal. An idea which Dr.Martin King had was to pretend that we’re at a moment in life where it is possible to have a great indication of privilege, and which they are unaware of what they have. In this color, people of color cannot express their culture as freely due to the public eye, as racism continues to play a big factor in their daily lives. For change to happen, we accept our racial and ethical differences, and communicate as a whole, but until then, racism will continue and be endless.
