Short essay

Choose one of these two topics on which to write your short essay for this unit: (Read instructions and guidelines carefully)

The QA is fictional; no such organization existed at this time in East Los Angeles. Why do you think Viramontes invented it, especially in a novel that is historically accurate in other ways? How would the atmosphere of the novel change without it?

Turtle presents herself as a boy, and works hard to prove herself as a member of the gang. Why do you think Turtle wants to be a boy so badly? Do you think it is her natural inclination, a reaction to the environment in which she has grown up, or both? Her aunt calls her a “malflora,” which translates to “lesbian.” Do you think she is?

Requirements:

Essay length: 500 words (essays that do not meet the length requirement will not receive credit)
Make sure to cite your sources (in-text / works cited page).
You must be able to use the novel, Their Dogs Came with Them, to support your argument. This is key.
Avoid being too general or broad. Focus on the topic you are writing about. Be specific and clear in how you present your information.
Any essay that does not reflect the above guidelines may not recieve credit.
