Skeptics May Object

Be sure that you have read “Skeptics May Object” before completing this assignment.  You should already have a topic and a working thesis in mind for your final essay.  Now, I want you to write a brief (300 words) counter argument.  In other words, I want you to take an opposing position to the thesis you have prepared for your argument essay and construct a short argument supporting that opposing position.  For example, If you are planning to argue that guns on campus make students safer, then in this assignment you will argue that guns on campus will not make students safer. Begin the assignment with a statement of your actual thesis.  Then, skip a few lines and begin your counter argument with an antithesis.   The purpose here is to encourage you to explore opposing viewpoints.  Being able to anticipate and address opposing viewpoints is an important element in making a convincing argument.
