The Meaning of Religion

Question Description

What is a religion? What makes it special, and separates it from, say, a political affiliation, or being a fan of a certain sports team?

For this week, do not worry about replies, I am more interested in what you have to say.

Answer these two questions:

1. What is a religion to you?

2. Often we equate religion with belief in a deity, do you believe this is the case (feel free to state whether or not you believe in a deity, but this is not required.)

250 words minimum. Do not worry about replies for this week.

Discussion Post

Philosophy involves studying the significant and systematic questions arising in everyday life, where some of the questions involve the nature of reality (Cohen-Almagor, 2017). Philosophy is what we always think because it entails the love for wisdom and how people use it to understand human beings’ existence. When engaging with philosophic concepts, people tend to believe the things which others around them believe. When looking at Confucius’s vocabulary, I assumed that this does not mean they get trusted when a person develops trust (Confucius, 2019). The assumption got reinforced by learning that there is close righteousness with trustworthiness. This week’s password is purple. What Aristotle is doing in the Nicomachean Ethics is similar to what Confucius does in the Analects. There are so many ways to show how the Nicomachean Ethics gets related to the Analects and what the two philosophers are doing, which is similar. The “R” for a reason in Aristotle’s claims is that a person’s happiness depends on the appropriate virtues. The two philosophers show how people can achieve excellence in their character. In conclusion, people can attain happiness from different circumstances in their lives.

In order to receive credit for these assignments (in general) you must do a number of things: 1. Have a post of at least 150 words on topic. 2. Contain one citation. (do not worry about this for the first assignment) 3. Include the password I drop in the audio lectures (do not worry about this for this first assignment 3. It must use one of the WRAITEC ( The goodthinker’s toolkit) letters as a tool to prompt yourself. How does one use WRAITEC? It is rather straightforward; pick one of the letters (such as R for reasons) and focus on the reasons for Aristotle making this or that claim. Any letter can be used, but be sure to be clear which it is you are using (at least for these first couple weeks of class). Additionally, you owe your fellow inquirers two replies. This means you can either reply to two different classmate’s responses, or respond to someone who has replied to you. These replies should actually attempt to engage with your eachother. Posts consisting of very basic sentiments (mere regurgitation of what your class mate has said in order to prove you read their post to me), will receive no credit. A good way to not make a mistake here is by asking questions of your fellows. Such questions will encourage further conversation. These replies should be about 50-100 words,
